Being the son of an establshed artist is not always an advantage! Indeed it can prove difficult when comparisons are often in the forefront of the viewing public thoughts. However Steve, the son of St Ives artist Bob Crossley (sadly deceased September 2010) has managed to do so with a substantial degree of succcess in his own right.

Whilst acknowledging the encouragement and a 'few tips from his Dad' his paintings carry just one signature, that of his own!

A self taught artist arriving in St Ives, Cornwall at the age of 3 enjoying the experience of childhood and adolescence in perfect surroundings of this extraordinarily special seaside resort. Also spending time in London as a child he soon realised where he eventually wanted to settle. For the next fifteen years he traded as a commercial fisherman in Lowestoft and Newlyn. He now lives with his family working in and around St Ives.

With broad brush strokes and powerful confident passages of colour, he captures and conveys a strong sense of vibrant life, without sentimentality and all the more effective for it.

Steve has exhibited his works at Gallery on the Square, St Ives (solo show), and The Glass House Gallery, Penzance and has a permanant display at Two Seasons Gallery, St Ives.

The Artist " I like to paint from memory, creating an atmosphere of freedom without the confines of the visable image".
